Check the current requirements of the destination, transport provider and any jurisdictions crossed during the trip. Documentation, vaccinations, health certificates, identification and import rules may apply depending on the animal and route.
Use secure identification
Make sure identification details are current. Carry copies of relevant records and keep emergency contact information accessible rather than relying on a single phone image.
Choose an appropriate carrier or enclosure
The animal should have enough room to maintain a comfortable posture while remaining securely contained. Introduce the carrier before travel so it does not become an unfamiliar object associated only with a stressful journey.
Plan food and water
Keep the usual diet as consistent as practical. Bring enough of the normal food for delays, and plan access to water according to the species and transport conditions.
